St. John Community Development
Corporation (SJCDC) was founded by St.
John Institutional Missionary
Baptist Church to help revitalize the
Overtown community.
The church has played a very significant
role in Overtown’s evolvement
since its beginning.
We felt it was our responsibility to
take a lead role in restoring Overtown.

Future Planning
SJCDC is currently establishing more development plans
for new construction projects. Projects currently in
the planning stage include a joint venture with a private
development to build condominuims on the St. John Church
and SJSCDC owned property in the area, purchasing old
structures for renovation, and constructing housing
for residents of Overtown.
Accomplishments Successfully implemented the City
of Miami's Commercial Facade Treatment Program
Provided Project Management for the improvementof 20
commercial structures in Overtown.
Awarded State of Floridagrant funds to provide local
business owners with managerial and technicalassistance,
loan packaging, access t ocapital and business counseling.
Constructed a 35 unit affordable rental housing complex,
completed in 1992 and is proposed for a conversion to
affordable homeownership condominiums in 2007.
Accrued real estate inventory of over 6 acres in Overtown.
First CDC to issue a public Request for Letters of Interest
and Qualifications (RFLIQ) for a joint venture development
of affordable housing units.
