The SJCDC'sachievements and project completions have been substancial, and continue o make a difference in the community. The organization succesfully implemented the City of Miami's Commercial Facade Program and has overseen the improvement of 20 commercial structures in Overtown. In addition, SJCDC has used funds from the State of Florida to provide local business owners with managerial and technical assistance, loan packaging, access to capital and business counseling. Due to the dedication and perseverance of the SJCDC several businesses have received assistance.

Low-income residents also finding themselves in better surroundings thanks to the SJCDC. A new, 35 unit affordable rental housing complex was constructed in 1992 and is fully occupied. The SJCDC is currently establishing more locationsfor new construction projects. Other projects currently in the planning and development stage including a joint venture with a private developer to build 96 townhomes in the area, purchasing old structures for renovation, and constructing housing for the formerly homeless in Overtown.
